4 days intensive ashtanga workshop with KPJAYI teacher Sharmila Desai


Nick Evans, Katia Garcia Gomez and we as a De Yoga Studio are verry happy and honoured that she is willing to visit Eindhoven for an intensive workshop. 

Sharmila will be teaching 3 mysore classes, 1 led class and 4 lectures from Thursday 19th of October until Sunday 22th of October.

Sharmila Desai was first introduced to Ashtanga yoga by Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois when she visited Mysore in 1997. She has continued to study regularly at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute and is one of few worldwide to be Certified by the Institute to teach the Ashtanga yoga system.

Interwoven with each talk are stories and lessons learned through the experience of paramapara with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sri R. Sharath Jois, the Bhagavat Gita as well as practical notes on asana practice from earlier in the day. There will be ample time each talk for questions and discussion.

1. Yoga As a Divine Path
What does it mean to walk on the path of yoga? How do we live our lives so yoga becomes a lifelong journey toward greater awareness and knowledge of Self? This talk is an exploration on yoga as a way of life and how its teachings can absorb into all aspects of our existence.

2. Healing Wisdom
We will study the therapeutic art and science behind the Primary series also known as Yoga Chikitsa which purifies our internal system. We will especially discuss suryanamaskaras, standing asanas and finishing asanas paying close attention to the thread of the tristhana method - breath, vinyasa, drishti- as well as mudra all of which bring an inner alignment of body mind and consciousness.

3. Planting the seeds of yamas and niyamas
How we relate to the world, with others and with ourselves serves as the foundation for our daily practice to grow and nourish in a stable and everlasting way. We will delve into the yamas and niyamas/ principles of living in detail and how to apply them when we practice asana regularly.

4. Effort and Surrender
When do we apply effort and surrender in our daily discipline so we are truly quiet and listening, synching ourselves to the natural life cycles to create both inner and outer equanimity? We will look at how to cultivate Sthira Sukham in our practice through changes including how we face difficulties and our fears in finding freedom.
